A new recreational center

To encourage the children to re-attend school and to bring some much needed relief to their every day situation the Gabaka foundation, financially supported by Smiles to Nepal, have built a recreational center to provide a library, games and other recreational activities for the school children. Books and toys were collected to initially stock the center. In addition, motivational seminars will be held in order to support the children in overcoming their trauma.

The situation in the Shree Haleshwori Lower Secondary School

The Shree Haleshwori Lower Secondary School is located in the Dolakha region, east of Kathmandu. During the big Earthquake the school suffered major infrastructural damage, however a strong after shock on the 12the of May completely destroyed the School and surrounding infrastructure. The government provided monsoon resistant temporary shelters, but this was where the support ended. As the children of the school are still traumatised, they are scared to go back to school and therefore new incentives needed to be generated to encourage the children to go back to school and to help recover from the trauma of the earthquakes.
